Oh Iraqi shoe man, thank you for making a gesture that summed up the feelings of so many Americans these past eight years. Next time (and how I wish there could be a next time), trek through a field of poo in steel-toed Dr. Martins prior to your throw.

Stolen Dachshund in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota [Oct. 24th, 2008|05:45 pm]
My friend Meaghan's house was burglarized and if that's not traumatic enough, her dachshund, Edgar, was stolen too. If you are in the Twin Cities area and have any information about this, please contact her. This is from Meaghan:

Yesterday afternoon, my house was broken into. The thieves took my laptop and PS2, but that means nothing to me, because they also stole my long-haired mini-dachshund, Edgar.

They took him, his kennel (which he was in at the time), a container of cat food (they probably thought it was dog food) and his food dish.

Edgar is my baby. I've had him since he was 8weeks old (he's 4 years old now) He is reddish-brown in color and around 11lbs.

He is, unfortunately, not microchipped. He was also not wearing a collar.

If anyone sees him or has any information on his location, please contact the Brooklyn Center Police Dept at 763-569-3300.

I heart Margaret Cho.

I am not voting for McCain. I hope that is obvious. I am sick of everyone saying – β€œHe was a good soldier. He was a good soldier.”

Um yeah. He was captured.

So he was not that good.

And now with Sarah Palin at his side, they have actually become the worst ticket imaginable. The only way it could be worse would be if Satan were running with Chuck Norris as his VP. Actually, Lucifer-Norris sounds better than McCain-Palin.

This is horrific, HORIFFIC animal abuse. Say what you will about PETA. Animals that are giving their lives to supply us with food deserve humane treatment.

AP Exclusive: Video shows workers abusing pigs

WASHINGTON - An undercover video shot at an Iowa pig farm shows workers hitting sows with metal rods, slamming piglets on a concrete floor and bragging about jamming rods up into sows' hindquarters.

On the video, obtained by The Associated Press, a supervisor tells an undercover investigator for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals that when he gets angry or a sow won't move, "I grab one of these rods and jam it in her (anus)."

The farm, located outside of Bayard, Iowa, about 60 miles west of Des Moines, is a supplier to Hormel Foods of Austin, Minn. PETA wants to use the results of the investigation to pressure Hormel, the maker of Spam and other food products, to demand that its suppliers ensure humane treatment of pigs.

At one point in the video, workers are shown slamming piglets on the ground, a practice designed to instantly kill those baby pigs that aren't healthy enough. But on the video, the piglets are not killed instantly, and in a bloodied pile, some piglets can be seen wiggling vainly. The video also shows piglets being castrated, and having their tails cut off, without anesthesia.

This is Ollie. If everything works out with our application, he'll be coming home with us tomorrow. We met him a few weeks ago when we stopped at the humane society just to pet the cats. We knew we'd bring another cat home someday, but we wanted to wait for a special needs adoption.

Ollie was the biggest cat in his room and seemed to be the leader of the other cats. He'd lick their heads and send them on their way, like he cared for their well-being. He definitely seemed like the kind of cat people would pass by. His fur is black and sort of rough, and he has a snaggletooth and thin hair on his head. He has that scrappy alley cat look. When we took the time to pet him, he purred and purred.

I watched the humane society website weekly to see if Ollie had been adopted. No such luck. Craig and I finally decided to adoption him, if he'd have us. We went back yesterday and was very happy to be petted. His chart said he hated belly rubs. If you talk to him quietly he rolls right over for them. He seems very easy going and mentally stable, unlike our other cats.

Black cats have the lowest adoption rate. I saw an example of this yesterday. A family was browsing cats and the little girl picked up a giant black tomcat. He didn't fidget in her arms and she hugged him, as giant as he was. They seemed like a good match. She asked her mom if they could get the black cat and the mother said, "No, he looks just like Midnight. We want something different." You stupid cunt, you're picking out a living being, not a throw pillow.

When you think about it, all shelter cats are special needs cats. They've all been dumped there by sad circumstances. There's no guarantee they'll go to a loving home either. Ollie has been at the shelter since December and that's a long time to sit in a strange place, seeing people pass you by day after day. Now he'll have a home that will do anything for him, and other cats to play with once they get past the initial introductions. I hope the cat that "looked like Midnight" can find a good home where he's loved for who he is, not how he matches the sofa.

Posting this so I don't lose it; these pretzels are pure sin. Love 'em.

Seasoned Pretzels

30 oz. pretzels
1 bottle Orville Reddenbacher butter-flavored oil
1 pkg. Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix
3 tsp dill weed
1 tsp garlic powder

Combine oil, Hidden Valley and spices. Microwave about 1.5 minutes. Put pretzels in large bowl, pour oil mixture over and mix well (they will be swimming in oil). Let sit and mix often. Spread on cookie sheets and let sit overnight, tossing occasionally. Store in airtight container.

Today at work we were reminiscing about the 90's.

Slap Bracelets: Fashion that could cut you.

Scrunchies: Can you get any more unattractive?

Retarded Shoe-lacing: Why did we stuff our L.A. Gear shoelaces into the toes so you couldn't see a tied bow?

It's funny to see 80's fashion like big, colorful earrings and charms at Claire's. Talk about inflation... those plastic charms are now $2.50 each! What will we bring back from the 90's? I am all for grunge coming back. I never gave up Doc Martens and black clothing. I do not want to see jeans tightly cuffed, I.O.U. shirts or those blouses that had sheer sleeves and waists.

What sucked for you in the 90's?

Progress; though this shouldn't even be up for debate.

Assembly passes contraception bill

Madison -- The Assembly voted late Tuesday to require hospitals to provide emergency contraception to victims of sexual assault.

The bill passed on a 56 to 41 vote. Because of a procedural move, the Assembly will have to take a final vote on the measure the next time it meets in early 2008. From there, it would go back to the Senate because of a minor change to the bill; the Senate passed it earlier this year 27-6. Gov. Jim Doyle has said he would sign it.

This angers me. A lot of people may lose their homes because their adjustable rate mortgages are set to go up next year. Now the government wants a freeze on their rates?

Why did these people take on mortgages they can't afford? We just took out a mortgage only because we knew we could afford it. There's no way we'd take an ARM. If we couldn't get an affordable mortgage, then we wouldn't have bought a house right now. It's that damn simple! Why should we reward people for irresponsible spending and financial planning?

My credit card rates could go up at any time, but God forbid the government stops the credit industry from screwing people. I would think that credit cards are responsible for more financial turmoil than mortgages.
